FACS touts a number of TSSAA athletic programs, including the popular and beloved all-American sport baseball in the Spring and Summer. Heading into the 2023 season, FACS Crusader baseball is looking to build upon the tremendous strides they made from last season, with nearly their entire team back in action for the season.
"The 2022-2023 FACS Crusader baseball season is right around the corner, and we could not be more excited about the potential of this team," shares Jonathan Moody, Head Coach, FACS Crusader Baseball. "We return eight varsity starters and a plethora of new
faces to this year’s team, creating excitement and high expectations."
Last year’s team was able to accomplish extraordinary things that included an appearance at the Division II-A Sub-State tournament, a single-season wins record, 6 players on the All-District Team, 3 players on the All-Region Team, 3 players on the All-Region Tournament Team, 4 Daily-Memphian All-Metro Team selections, and multiple single-season FACS stat records.
"Last year featured some great accomplishments, but we are looking to improve this season and make a strong push at winning the State Title," Moody shared.
On such a close-knit team, the two seniors who won't return to the program will be greatly missed, but confidence among those returning is rising. Moody shared that a number of the student-athletes have naturally stepped into those leadership positions, as well as a few additions made to the team.
Moody continued: "The guys have worked extremely hard in the summer and fall to prepare for this season. We have seen significant growth from all of our players. We have some very talented, hard-working players on our team, with some getting collegiate recognition.
In addition to having talented players, we have young men with exceptional faith, character and leadership qualities. As a program, we strive to enhance the God-given abilities that these young men possess, but more importantly, help them grow in their walk with Christ."
With an outstanding mix of young talent and experienced upperclassmen, the head coach's sentiment is echoed by his coaching staff, including FACS alum, Matthew Mills who played collegiate baseball at both Southwest Community College and Christian Brothers University and has multiple years experience coaching with the Memphis competitive baseball organization.
