A Faithful Friend

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

The entire FACS community is saddened at the loss of our beloved Coach Jimmy Spain, who has gone to be with the Lord. Coach Spain was a fixture at FACS, a faithful friend who impacted the lives of a generation of students. He brightened the morning for children in our before-school care program–praying with and for our students as they began each day–taught countless P.E. classes, cheered on our athletes in virtually every sport, hosted our alumni at football homecoming, and coordinated the Philip Spain Memorial Golf Tournament each spring.

In lieu of flowers, the Spain family asks all memorial gifts go to the Coach Jim Spain Memorial Fund at FACS. This fund will be used to strengthen FACS and its athletic programs. Checks should be made out to FACS with Coach Jim Spain Memorial Fund on the memo line. Please mail gifts to Coach Jim Spain Memorial Fund, FACS, 8650 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN 38018. Gifts may also be sent through Venmo to @Kendall-Boyd-7. The Spain family will be notified of your gift. The Spain family thanks you for your continued prayers.

A Celebration of Life for Coach Jimmy Spain will be held today at 5:00 pm in the First Assembly Memphis/FACS Worship Center with a ‘socially distanced’ visitation beginning at 4:00 pm. Protocol for in-person services are below.

* All persons should wear masks entering and departing the building.

* The wearing of masks is optional once the people are seated in the Worship Center.

* Families can sit together in the Worship Center, with non-family individuals spacing out by three seats.

* Every other row in the Worship Center has been blocked off for social distancing and cannot be used.

For anyone who does not feel comfortable attending or is unable to attend, there is a link below for a livestream of the service.
