First Assembly Christian School Secondary faculty and staff, along with family and friends, honored students in sixth through twelfth grades during the annual Academic Honors Awards Night on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 7 p.m. The evening is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating academic achievements of students in every area of study offered at FACS including: English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Science and Journalism/Communications.
“We gather together thankful for the opportunity to recognize the academic achievements of these young men and women seated before us today,” Dr. Bryan Sanders, Head of School, FACS, stated. “It is exciting to see the number of students at FACS who have achieved this level of academic excellence, as this is one thing we strive to achieve as a school - academic excellence.”
During the ceremony, students crossed the stage, posed for a photo and accepted certificates of recognition.
The Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2023 were also announced during the ceremony.
Kendall Forrest was presented the Four-Year Award for the highest academic honors in the areas of Mathematics, Science and Social Studies at FACS. With the highest cumulative grade point average, Kendall was also announced as the Valedictorian for the Class of 2023, the most prestigious award a student can receive during their K-12 academic tenure. She was also recognized for her academic excellence and involvement in the honors societies: Physics, Dual Enrollment Government, Honors Calculus and the National Honors Society.
Reese Miller was announced as Salutatorian, achieving the second highest cumulative grade point average. Reese was also presented with multiple other honors societies recognitions, including Honors Calculus and National Science Honor Society.
Kara Crawford, Senior, also received the 4-Year Award for English.
Mr. Shawn Hardiman, Secondary Principal, and Mrs. April Spain,Director of Student Development, announced all recognition and honors.
“It has been an honor to reward each of these students for their academic success this evening, Shawn Hardiman, Secondary Principal, FACS, stated at the conclusion of the ceremony. “It gives me great hope to know that students of this caliber are experiencing success at FACS. My prayer is that they will go change their communities and this city for the better, for the glory of God.”
Seniors will be honored again during upcoming commencement ceremonies, scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary at First Assembly Memphis, with family and friends invited to be present.
