Summer Camps

Each year, FACS coaches offer spring and summer camps in various sports. Teachers also offer academic camps to help students develop skills and prepare for the upcoming school year.

In the fine arts, area, secondary students participate in summer band camp at FACS, and students interested in forensics, mock trial or student congress may attend summer camps in various locations.

Summer 2008

Academic Camps:

Art Camp, June 9-13, 2008

Instructor: Jeanette Leake

Individualized attention is given to develop art skills. Students aged 6, 7 and 8 are taught from 10 a.m. to Noon; students aged 9, 10 and 11 take class from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $125 and includes all supplies. Chess Camp, Weeks of July 14 and 28 and August 4

Instructor: Dale Flickinger

FACS math teacher Dale Flickinger is widely recognized for his skill in teaching the game of chess to Mid-South area students. For more information about chess camp, pick up a flier in the school office.

 

Science Camp, Weeks of May 27, June 2 and June 9

Instructor: Patti Jelinek

This program is taught in Germantown by a homeschooling mom with a love for and credentials in science. The program consists of three camp topics for students in grades 3 and 4. Shurley Method English Camp, July 14-18, 2008

Volleyball Camp, May 27-May 30, 2008

This camp is for girls entering grades 4-8. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $75. Coach Judy Bramlett describes this as a skills camp with lots of one-on-one training. Campers will be divided into groups based on skill level and will work on passing, serving, setting, and learning the game. Each session will end with a fun game played with the FACS varsity players. Softball Camp, June 2-June 6, 2008

Girls entering grades 4-8 may attend. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $75. Campers will play lots of games and practice basic skills such as base running, fielding, and hitting (including bunting). Coach Philip Spain, with three state appearances, instructs, and is assisted by varsity softball players. Contact: Coach Judi Bramlett

Boys Basketball Camp, June 2-June 6, 2008

This camp is for boys entering grades 4-8 and runs from 9-12 a.m. to noon. The cost is $75. Campers will have fun (#1 camp goal) while learning the fundamentals of basketball (shooting, rebounding, defending, passing and dribbling) and experiencing game situations. Contact: Coach Harold Cagle

Baseball Camp, June 16-June 19, 2008

This camp is for boys entering grades 4-8. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $100. This is a four-day camp with Friday the 20th set aside as a "rain date." Students will work on the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, pitching, catching, hitting and sliding. FACS coaches and players will instruct. Contact: Coach Cory Concus

Football Camp, July 7-July 11, 2008

Boys entering grades 4-8 may attend. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $75. Our varsity coaches, all of whom have college playing experience, coach the camp. Activities include daily devotionals, guest speakers (current and former FACS or college players), daily competition, and instruction for every position. Campers receive a T-shirt.
