Faculty & Staff

 

Janice Brady

  Janice Brady teaches part time as a Bible I instructor,

  a position she assumed in 2007. She holds a Bachelor of

  Arts in Psychology (summa cum laude) from the

  University of Memphis. She works as a bookkeeper at

  First Assembly Church. Previous experience has

  included work with the Department of Human Services. Mrs. Brady said she hopes to "help students hide God's word in their hearts ... and help them apply Biblical principles to their own lives."

Judi Bramlett

Judi Bramlett teaches junior high girls’ physical education and freshman girls’ wellness courses part time. She also coaches volleyball and serves as an assistant softball coach. She is secretary to the Athletic Booster Club.  “I enjoy being with kids and coaching them,” she said. “I like to do whatever I can to help them grow in the Lord and become better young women.”

 

J. Harold Cagle

  Harold Cagle teaches boys’ physical education and

  wellness and serves as head coach for varsity boys’

  basketball. He joined the FACS staff in 2004. He holds a

  Bachelor of Science in physical education from

  Lambuth College and a master of business

  administration from the University of Memphis. He has taught for four decades, including 31 years at Germantown high School.

Cory Concus

Cory Concus teaches Bible and geometry, assists as a football coach, and serves as high school baseball head coach. He joined the FACS staff in 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical studies and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, and is currently working toward his Master of Education through Union University. Prior to joining the staff, he worked as a substitute teacher and in the construction industry.

Amy Dunbar

  Amy Dunbar joined the FACS faculty in 2007. She

  teaches seventh grade literature and Spanish I. Mrs.

  Dunbar graduated with honors from Crichton College.

  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with

  minors in Spanish and theology. Additionally, she

  attended an intensive German language school in Murnau, Germany, where she received language proficiency certification. Prior to coming to FACS, she served for two and a half years as a missionary in Austria, where she worked with refugees from all over the world. Her experience also includes three years at Central Church as youth counselor, drama/art coordinator, and mission's assistant.

 

Dana Duncan

Dana Duncan directs high school band, junior high band, and sixth grade beginner band. She also directs the FACS School of Music, serves as yearbook advisor, and teaches music appreciation in the high school. She began working at FACS in 2000. Mrs. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mississippi, and studied music for three years at the University of Memphis. She is a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church Sanctuary Orchestra, and previously volunteered as assistant director of the Bellevue Baptist Church band program. Mrs. Duncan says, “The Lord Jesus Christ led me to FACS and I am thrilled to be here.”

 

Susanne L. Faulkner

  Susanne Faulkner joined the FACS staff in 2002. She

  teaches basic math, pre-algebra and algebra to junior

  high students. Mrs. Faulkner holds a Bachelor of

  Science in journalism from the University of Memphis

  and a Master of Education from Christian Brothers

  University. Prior to entering the teaching profession,

she worked in business and advertising.

Dale Flickinger

Dale Flickinger has been an FACS staff member since 1990 and teaches our advanced mathematics courses, including calculus, precalculus, algebra II and geometry. He also serves as chess coach. In addition, he directs a citywide chess program with about 1,500 players, Memphis Scholastic Chess. He received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and Biblical studies from Evangel University. Mr. Flickinger said he tries to live his life in light of one of his favorite praise choruses. “Knowing Jesus is the greatest thing,” he said. “He’s my all, He’s my best, He’s my joy, my righteousness, and I love Him!”

 

Barbara Foster

  Barbara Foster teaches junior high grammar, and has

  been on the FACS faculty since 1992. She holds a

  Bachelor of Science in elementary education (grades

  one through nine) from the University of Tennessee-

  Martin, and a Master of Religious Education from

  International Seminary in Plymouth, Florida. Previously, she taught in the Memphis City Schools and at Frayser Baptist School and served as elementary principal at Skyview Academy. “I truly love to teach school,” Mrs. Foster says. “My motto in life is, ‘to enjoy your work and to accept your lot in life—that is indeed a gift from God,’ based on Ecclesiastes 5:19.”

Sharon Grace

Sharon Grace joined the FACS faculty in 1977. She

teaches Spanish I, II and III and Latin I and II. She holds

a master’s degree in education from the University of

Memphis and is certified to teach English, Latin and

Spanish. Of her years at FACS, she says, “It is a great

pleasure for me to be able to share with young people my love for our Lord and for foreign languages.”

John Grant

John Grant teaches junior high Bible and coaches our junior high golf and junior high boys' basketball teams. He is a 2004 graduate of First Assembly Christian School and a student at Crichton College. He
expects to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies, with a minor in Biblical Greek, in May of 2007.

Jason Hall

  Jason Hall teaches secondary Bible and American

  government. He also serves as junior varsity football

  coach. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and missions

  from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He

  also has studied history at the University of Memphis

  and commercial aviation at Delta State University. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God, and served for seven years as a youth pastor before coming to FACS in 2005. “I’m thrilled to be at FACS because I believe in the school’s purpose and mission,” Mr. Hall said.

Raegan Haser

Raegan Haser teaches high school biology, honors

biology and anatomy and physiology. She holds a

Bachelor of Science in marine biology from the College

of Charleston, South Carolina, and is currently pursuing

her master’s degree in education at the University of

Memphis. She also has attended the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, the University of South Pacific-Fiji, and the University of Urbino-Italy. Prior to joining the FACS staff in 2005, she served as a homeschool teacher to a family of five and as a competitive gymnastics instructor. “I am so thankful to our precious Lord for giving me the opportunity to not only teach a subject I love, but also to get to know—and share my faith with—the young people He loves so much,” Miss Haser comments.

Doris Ann Johnson

  Doris joined FACS in 2007 and teaches high school

  English. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies

  from the University of Memphis. She previously served

  for two years as a lead substitute at St. Anne's School in

  Bartlett and for four and one half yeas as a tutor and

  mentor with the Center for Athletic Academics at the University of Memphis. "One of my favorite quotes is by Maya Angelou: 'You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated. The encountering may be the very experience which creates the vitality and the poser to endure.' "

Erin Lindberg

Erin Lindberg teaches history in seventh and eighth grades. Originally from Florence, Alabama, Erin earned her Bachelor of Arts in international studies from Rhodes College. Prior to joining the FACS staff in 2006, her experience included theatre and speech instruction at Playhouse on the Square and work for an area magazine.

 

Carolyn Long

Carolyn Long joined the FACS faculty part time in 2007 to teach junior high choir. She also serves as assistant girls' basketball coach for junior high. She has been co-president of the FACS Parent-Teacher Fellowship since 2006. Mrs. Long has been active on Memphis-area worship teams for the last decade. As an independent artist, she has released two CDs.

Gail Marcum

  Gail Marcum teaches speech, debate, forensics and

  business keyboarding courses to high school students

  and forensics classes for junior high and high school

  students. She also provides after-school forensics for

  students in grades four through six and coaches our

  middle and high school forensics teams. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Memphis. Mrs. Marcum quotes Mark Twain to her students: “A man that doesn’t read is no better than a man who can’t.”

Barbara McDade

Barbara McDade teaches junior and senior high art

classes and serves as co-sponsor of the FACS Student

Government Association. She began teaching at FACS

in 1984 and is known for individual attention to

students’ artistic development. She holds a Bachelor of

Arts in visual art from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. One of her favorite quotes: "In the arts students develop a sense of themselves.  Art education develops self-esteem helping students succeed in life."  (Sandy Brooks, “Hooked on Drawing.”  Englewood Cliffs: Prentice Hall, 1996). 

 

Carol J. Metcalf

  Carol Metcalf teaches sophomore and senior English and

  Advanced Placement English, which culminates in an

  AP Victorian Tea held each spring semester. She holds a

  Bachelor of Arts in English from Furman University

  and a Master of Arts in English from the University of

  Memphis. Prior to joining the FACS staff in 1993, Mrs. Metcalf taught at Raleigh Egypt High School for four years, at Bartlett High School for two years, and in South Carolina for three years.

 

Pamela Munsey

Pamela Munsey began teaching French to FACS

students in 2003, and serves students in grades eight through 12. She began speaking French in high school

and minored in French while earning a Bachelor of Arts

in marketing from Delta State University. She also has

studied at the Alliance Francaise in Paris. Madame Munsey, as students call her, began her teaching career as a tutor and educational assistant. “Each class at FACS has its own personality,” she says. “Every day adds new meaning to teaching.”

Selwyn Parker

  Selwyn Parker teaches freshman honors English. She

  joined the faculty in 2006. She earned both a bachelor's

  and master's degree in education at Murray State

  University in Murray, Kentucky. She previously

  taught in the Memphis City School system for about

  five years, homeschooled for nine years, and served as a tutor with Memphis Tutorial Association where she taught study skills classes in schools throughout the city and tutored students on an individual basis.

Hollie Peacock

Hollie Peacock holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy

with a minor in English from the University of

Mississippi in Oxford. She joined the FACS staff in 2007

to teach freshman physical science and sophomore

world literature. Previously, Mrs. Peacock served on the

high school youth ministries staff and as director of young women's ministry at First Evangelical Church, Memphis. "When God calls His people to teach, He gives them great responsibility," she says. "It is my desire to teach my students to know why they believe what they believe, so that they will not want to flee from what they know to be the truth"

Paul D. Piker

  Mr. Piker teaches algebra I, algebra II, basic algebra II

  and pre-calculus in the high school, coaches the FACS

  Knowledge Bowl team, instructs the ACT math

  workshop, and assists with school sports teams. He

  earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education for

  mathematics from the University of Arkansas, and taught for 17 years in Arkansas prior to joining the FACS staff in 2004.

Linda Powell

Linda Powell has taught resource classes at FACS since

1988. Her current duties include remedial instruction

in high school English and math. Mrs. Powell works

closely with teachers in other areas to help her

students meet requirements in all of their subject

matter, and with the Guidance Department to provide her students with college and career planning tools specific to their individual needs. She holds a Master of Science in special education from the University of Memphis. “I believe all students CAN learn if properly taught. I love to watch them learn.”

 

Carolyn Priest

  All eighth graders take a full semester course in critical

  thinking under Carolyn Priest, who joined the staff in

  2006. Mrs. Priest is also teaching a psychology and

  sociology course this school year and a section of eighth

  grade literature. She holds a bachelor’s degree in

  elementary education with a minor in psychology from

Blue Mountain College, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi. She has taught junior kindergarten, fifth through eighth grade resource classes, and third through 12th grade homebound students, all in Mississippi. “FACS promotes the same Christian and moral values we do (as a family), as well as striving for academic excellence,” she said.

 

Don Purvis

Don Purvis came to FACS in 2004 and teaches world

and American history. He also serves as football coach

 and assistant athletic director and is club leader for the

FACS chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from

Rhodes College and currently is pursuing his Master of

Science in education through Union University.

Lisa Saunders

  Lisa Saunders teaches world history and government to

  high school students. She received her bachelor’s degree

  in education from the University of Memphis, and is

  currently pursuing her master’s degree in curriculum

  and instruction. Additionally, she has completed Lee

  Canter educational courses. Lisa began teaching at the elementary level at FACS in 2002 and previously taught in the Shelby County Public Schools and in the Jefferson County School System in Birmingham, Alabama. She also has experience in substance abuse counseling with juveniles and adults.

 

Stanley Scott

Stanley Scott joined the FACS staff in 2005, bringing

36 years’ teaching experience to his position in junior

high science. He received his Bachelor of Science in

education from Union University and a Master of Arts

in administration from the University of Memphis. He

also has added 45 post-graduate credit hours from the University of Memphis and Cumberland University. In addition to his teaching duties, he coaches the FACS varsity girls’ basketball team.

 

Dorie Short

  Dorie Short chairs the FACS Science Department and

  teaches physics and chemistry. She has been teaching

  at the school since 1980. She received her Bachelor of

  Science in education with a major in biology as well as

  a Master of Science in natural science from the

  University of Memphis. Additional coursework was completed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Christian Brothers University and East Tennessee State University. Her favorite verse is Matthew 7:1, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

Mary Spain

Mary Spain has taught at FACS since 1978. She holds a

Bachelor of Science in education from the University of

Memphis and is certified to teach all subjects in grades

one through nine. Currently, she teaches junior high

health.

 

Louise Thomas

  Louise Thomas teaches accounting, economics,

  computer keyboarding and world geography. She has

  taught at FACS since 1992. She holds a Bachelor of

  Science in business education from the Mississippi

  University for Women and a master’s degree in

  business education from the University of Mississippi.She has continued her education with post-graduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Memphis. Her career has included teaching positions at the high school and community college levels in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas and business experience for various service and industrial concerns.

Mildred Waters

Mildred Waters began teaching at FACS in 1992. She

has served in a variety of teaching positions. Currently

she teaches Bible to seventh graders, teaches an eighth

grade pre-algebra course, and works with junior high

students who need specialized instruction to acquire

additional skills in grammar, basic math and pre-algebra. She holds a Bachelor of Science in education and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from the University of Memphis. “I love my work at FACS,” she said. “I know I am here because of the Lord’s leadership in my life.”

Jo Ann Webber

  Jo Ann Webber teaches elementary computer, junior

  high keyboarding, computer applications I and II, and

  web design. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business

  administration and a master’s degree in education

  from the University of Memphis, and has taken several

  doctoral courses. She joined FACS in 1986, having taught previously at Miller Hawkins Business College and the University of Memphis. She also has direct business experience in the areas of data processing and accounting.
